You Won’t Believe What the Song “Get Lucky” Really Means

Today one of my students was very surprised to discover that one of her favorite songs by Daft Punk (Get Lucky) was NOT really about “luck,” but rather ABOUT SEX. I did a quick google search and every translation I found in Portuguese and Spanish completely missed the real meaning of the song.

They all translated it literally to “have luck” or to “do well,” but the common colloquial definition of GET LUCKY is to HAVE SEX. GET SOME also means to HAVE SEX. The chorus repeats itself over and over:

She’s up all night ’til the sun (to not go to sleep)
I’m up all night to get some (have sex)
She’s up all night for good fun
I’m up all night to get lucky (have sex)
