Have You Ever Wanted to Make a Dream a Reality?
Let me share a story with you…
I recently headed to the north of Spain to run a half marathon, and I have some great news that I want to share and celebrate with you–I did it!!
Not only that, I got my best time EVER on a race. My optimistic goal was 1 hour 45 minutes, and guess what? I finished in just 1 hour and 38 minutes! I surpassed my goal ?
When I was younger I hated sports. I was repulsed by any sort of physical activity really. I preferred video games, TV series, the comfort of the couch. But a couple years ago I realized how important exercise would be for my success in life and general well being, so I picked up my sneakers and started running. And then in January 2016, as I was setting out my annual goals, I had some friends planning to run a ½ Marathon, and I was scared, but I decided to challenge myself and sign up with them. With the pressure of a deadline, the accountability of my friends, and a plan to train up to be able to run 21 kilometers, with some consistent dedication when race day came, I did it! I would NEVER have thought that I could run 21 KM!
This year I signed up for another one. I had all sorts of resistance. I wanted to make excuses every time I had to run early in the morning. But again, I committed to a race (I actually had to pay, which is important because it’s an investment), I followed a plan (actually I signed up for a course, another investment), I showed up on the day of the run, I gave it my all, and again I was shocked when I crossed the finish line of what I had been capable of!
So I’m not just telling you this to massage my ego…
What I want to say is that you too are capable of MUCH MORE THAN YOU THINK!
The ingredients are simple: Committing to a goal, making a plan, and if you can, investing in that goal and having someone hold you responsible to it. That’s it, just 2 or 3 things you need!
So if it’s so easy, then why do so few people make their dreams a reality?
Well, it’s simple, but it’s not easy. You will make mistakes, there will be speed bumps (difficulties), and you will probably fail at some point (and that’s ok). But when you cross that finish line, when you make that dream a reality, when you prove to yourself what you are capable of, then all of that hard work, and sweat, and blood will be worth it. Life is all about challenging ourselves and growing. That’s what makes the big dreams worthwhile. If all of your biggest life goals magically came to you while you were sitting on the couch, would you enjoy them? Probably not for long!
2017 is coming to an end. We have a new year on the horizon with a plethora (huge amount) of possibilities if we are willing to get off of our butts and make them a reality. Write down one BIG (but attainable) goal, create a plan, get someone to hold you responsible, and invest in it if possible! If one of those big goals is to make your English better, then we hope to help! We have a lot of exciting developments that we’re working hard on and we are so excited to be sharing with you in the coming weeks and months.
Until then, I would love for you to either REPLY to our email or COMMENT below and tell me about a time that you surpassed what you thought you were capable of OR a big goal that you would like to accomplish in the next year. I’d love to hear about it 🙂
Ethan, congratulations. Thanks for your support.
Thanks Javier!! Best of luck 🙂
